Dan Edward is a painter and the founder of High Horse Galerie & Ateliers. His work explores the shapes, colours, movement, life experiences, felt sensations and art history.
As a Resident Artist at High Horse Galerie & Ateliers, Dan Edward maintains an active studio practice while helping shape the gallery's artistic culture. Through exhibitions, critique sessions, workshops, and community programming, he contributes to an environment where artists can challenge one another, refine their craft, and engage meaningfully with the public.
Dan Edward founded High Horse Galerie & Ateliers with the goal of creating more than a gallery: the space was envisioned as a contemporary atelier and cultural gathering place where artists could work seriously, exhibit thoughtfully, and participate in a supportive artistic community.
Visitors are invited to experience both the finished works and the ongoing process of creation that unfolds within the studio.
My work begins in a variety of ways. Sometimes its a shape on the surface, sometimes with a sketch. Perhaps guided by a strong desire to execute an image or even just an exploration of colour combination. The painting can have a clear begin, middle and end, as much as be an exploratory piece that endures many hard shifts.
Currently, I am exploring the process of sketching life models and transfering the dynamism of the lines and shapes into a artwork made of oil paint.
Painting remains, for me, the thing I most want to spend my time doing.
